I’m With HIM!

“If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God…God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.”
1 John 4:12-16 (NKJV)

Did you hear about the crowd by the pearly gates? The first person in rags told Peter, ‘I gave all my worldly goods to feed the poor.’ ‘No,’ Peter told her, ‘You can’t come in…next.’
‘I worked in a homeless centre’ said the next person. ‘No,’ Peter said, ‘You can’t come in. Next.’
The next man drew himself up and announced, ‘I led a great revival.’ ‘No,’ said Peter, ‘You can’t come in…next.’
From the back of the crowd a short guy was jumping up and down, shouting, ‘Let me in, let me in!’ Peter asked, ‘Why should I let YOU in?’ ‘Because, said the noisy person, ‘I’m with Him.’ ‘With who?’ Peter queried. ‘With Jesus, I’m with Him.’ ‘Ah, come in, come in.’ And Peter opened the gates to let him in.

The above story reminds me of 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 that tells us if we have wonderful gifts and do marvellous things from feeding the poor to moving mountains and don’t have love, it profits nothing. We don’t receive salvation because of what we have done or who we are but because we believe in Jesus Christ, the only name through which we may receive salvation (Acts 4:10-12). However, if we believe, we listen to his voice and follow Him. John 13:35 says by this the world will know we are His disciples, if we love one another. We show our faith by our behaviour (James 2:14-26). Still, Matthew 15:8 says “These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honour Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.” It is not what we say and do, but what is in our hearts that counts.

Are YOU with HIM?

Prayer
Know our hearts, O God, and make us truly yours through faith and in love. Help us to identify with our Saviour Jesus Christ and abide in Him.
Amen
