Feed The World

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”
Matthew 6:25 (NIV)

Is it possible to feed the world? Well according to a group of scientists recently, it is. Over 30 experts from the EAT-Lancet commission spent two years devising a diet that, they say, could sustainably feed every single person alive today. As far as this group is concerned, it is possible to feed the whole world without destroying our planet. Wouldn’t it be great if that could be achieved?

But is just meeting our physical needs enough? On that subject, Jesus, who fed five thousand with just a few loaves and fishes, founder of the world’s biggest spiritual movement, famously declared: “People cannot live on bread alone.” Meaning that, to be truly fulfilled, we need to have more than just our physical needs met. Life is not just about physical existence. Humanity has emotional, psychological and spiritual needs that cannot be met with physical food. God alone can meet these needs. Jesus said, “Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.” John 6:27. He invites, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He is our shepherd who protects us and leads us to green pastures and living waters.

Do you hunger for something other than food? Why not make Jesus part of your daily diet?

Creator of all, we pray ‘give us this day our daily bread,’ but also ask that you give us that ‘Bread of Life’ that feeds the soul, that sustains to eternal life.
