As in the Days of Noah…

“But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.”
Matthew 24:37 (NKJV)

What was it like in the days of Noah? Look back to the time when the flood came and all humans and the living things were drowned except Noah and his family, I cannot imagine the scenario of the struggle of humans and animals to survive the global flood. God did warn them through the preaching of Noah for 120 years. He preached righteousness, “[God] did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly” (2 Peter 2:5).

God was not pleased with the state of the world as we read in Genesis 6:5, “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” No one heeded the warning, till suddenly the flood came and all perished. Why would Jesus compare the days of Noah to His second coming? Christ told His disciples that His coming will be sudden like a thief in the night and warned them. “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44).

In Noah’s days, people were eating and drinking and marrying and giving in marriages, scoffing at the warning of the flood. Today life goes on much the same—we are experiencing evil and wickedness, increasing immorality, crimes and atrocities—total disarray as the world is heading towards destruction, piling up nuclear arsenal and biological agents and nerve gases.

Christ gave signs to look for when His disciples asked privately of the time of His Coming. He said, “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars…nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:4-8).

The signs which Jesus gave to His disciples are coming to pass before our eyes. As Christians, let’s be part of the solution, not the problem.

Abba, Father in heaven, thank you for revealing the perilous times in which we are living today. Help us to heed, watch and pray that we remain faithful until the end. In Jesus’ name I pray and ask for mercy and blessing upon all the children of God.

Just a brief comment on the above study.
The flood was very highly unlikely to have been global. Much has been written about this and it is far more likely to have been a localised occurrence.

Got something to say?
