It’s All About Jesus

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his only begotten Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
1 John 4:9-10 (NIV)

Walking around the Supermarket and seeing the shelves stocked with Easter Eggs reminded me of something I heard a few years ago in this same store. It was snatches of a conversation between a tired mum pushing a loaded trolley and her young son. She was irritated at remembering the need to buy some Easter Eggs and blaming it on Easter. Her son said, “But Easter is all about Jesus !” I didn’t hear any more of the conversation but could imagine how it went! I was so encouraged because the boy was right. Even if he didn’t fully understand, he had the truth—it is all about Jesus.

The God of creation who humbled himself and came to humanity to share in our suffering also paid the debt for our sins by his death on the cross. Isaiah 53: 3-6 says “He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

Does it seem too good to be true that the only righteous and sinless person would take the sins of the whole world upon himself ? That is, the past, present and future sins of everyone !

Well it is true, Jesus Christ, came in human form, the Son of God the Father. At his death on the cross, the blood that poured out from Jesus, cleansed us all from every sin and made it possible for God to forgive us. By all means enjoy the chocolate eggs this Easter, but may you come to know our Lord and Savior also.

Prayer
Father, thank you for your gracious love and forgiveness that we don’t deserve. Thank you for your Son, our saviour, Jesus Christ, who is everything that we need.
Amen
