Saturation

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 (ESV)

Flooding occurs in many areas of southern England. Homes are destroyed and lives are disrupted. One of the main causes of this devastation is that the ground is water-logged by constant heavy rain. The soil can take no more—further absorption is impossible. The gutters, ditches and drains are blocked by debris and can no longer cope. The land is saturated. The dictionary definition of ‘saturation’ is ‘to fill, soak or imbue totally.’ [1]  Complete absorption and immersion.

The state of saturation can be a metaphor for how much God loves us. His love is complete and total – there is no space or margin – God loves us entirely and absolutely. The level of God’s love is inestimable in human understanding. He loves us more than we could ever imagine. God saturates and imbues us with His love despite our human frailties. His very name is Love!

We love our children and cannot bear the thought of losing them. As parents we sacrifice our time and energy for our progeny, we dream of what they will become and delight in their development. Yet we are human and sometimes our children frustrate and exasperate us.

We, God’s children, do not frustrate our loving Father. He gave His all for us—His perfect glorious Son. Romans 5:8 tells us,God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” We are imbued and saturated with God’s amazing love. Surely this should encourage us in our daily life. Live in the knowledge that we are loved completely by the One who created us.

Prayer
Wonderful Father, thank you for your love that is so perfect. Thank you for your precious Son who has saved us from ourselves.
Amen
