‘I Can’t Get No Satisfaction’!

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)

From the beginning of time, man has sought for something that he feels is missing in life. In these days when so much is available to us, we relentlessly seek to satisfy our needs. In a demanding consumer society, we try one thing after another; we seek something that is not simply a temporary fix but a lasting solution.

King Solomon, known for his wisdom, said in Ecclesiastes 1:9 “there is nothing new under the sun.” He wrestled with this same problem of seeking pleasure and satisfaction. He learned from bitter experience that life without God was meaningless.
God has created eternity within the heart of man, a spiritual hunger and thirst which only He can satisfy now and forever. Since we were made for eternity, the products of time will not sustain us. Even so the physical creation was made subject to time—we are part of the circle of life.

1 Timothy 6:6 tells us “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” Contentment and satisfaction in our lives can only have enduring value when we accept that God is the giver of all good things. The most vital being the gift of eternal life through His Son, the Saviour of the world. Our pursuit of happiness needs to be focussed on the grace and mercy of our Father in heaven. He is eager to bless and sustain you!

Father in heaven, we thank you that only in you can we truly live fulfilling lives that are pleasing in your sight. To you be the glory and honour.
