Wisdom From Above

“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.”
James 3:17 (NKJV)

We all have some wisdom, but “the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God” (1Corinthians 3:19). James 3:15 says this wisdom “does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.” Just pause for a moment and look at the world—what has mankind done to it through human wisdom? The whole creation is groaning in pangs.

But Christians are given the Spirit of power, love and sound mind, and Christ Himself is our wisdom. James 1:5 says “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” In the book of Proverbs 4:4-8 is written, “Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom, and in all your getting get understanding. Exalt her and she will promote you.” King Solomon was the wisest man, for God gave him wisdom from above. Thus Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of the men from the east and all the wisdom of Egypt (1 Kings 4:29-30).

When Jesus was 12 years old, He sat in the midst of teachers and scribes, both listening and asking questions, and they were astonished at His understanding and His answers. He increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men as it says in Luke 2:52. In Colossians 2:3 the Apostle Paul writes that in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. In Ephesians chapter 1, there is sub heading in my Bible: Prayer for Spiritual wisdom. In this chapter Paul prayed for the brethren, “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, that the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints” (verses 17-18

What a privilege to be given wisdom. No wonder Paul was exceedingly joyful and uttered the words which are found in Romans 11:33, “Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgement and His ways past finding out!”

I admit I lack wisdom and have been requesting God to grant me wisdom from above, and I think He is giving me enough to help me walk in the steps of My Saviour Jesus Christ. Do you lack wisdom? Please ask the God of glory, who will give it to you liberally.

God of grace and full of wisdom, our Father in heaven, I thank You for who You are. You established the earth by Your wisdom. I praise and love You, and pray in Jesus’ name.
