A Great Surprise!

“…always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Ephesians 5:20 (NIV)

A few months ago, I was in church and the Pastor said something about getting a surprise and thanking God for it. Suddenly, I thought of the speaker—no, not that speaker! Let me explain: I’m a great fan of classical music and one day I was listening to my music system when the doorbell rang. I answered it and it was a delivery of two large boxes.

I looked at the address label and my name was on it but I hadn’t ordered anything. So what was going on? I took the order and when the man had gone, I opened the boxes. Oh my, they were speakers! I connected them up and listened. The sound was fantastic! I rang the company and spoke to the director whom I hadn’t spoken to for many years. We had a marvellous chat that went on for some time and we were firm friends again.

I learned later that this surprise was a gift from a friend, but it wasn’t until some time after this when the Pastor spoke that I realised that this was a great treasure and I hadn’t thanked God for it. Thank you, God!

Holy Father, forgive us when we forget to thank you for our many blessings. Thank you for the speakers, they are wonderful. In Jesus’ name.
