Concentrate on Christ

“…set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts…
1 Peter 3:15 (NET)

There are times in my life when I need to focus emotionally on Jesus Christ. It’s easy to be completely distracted by what’s going wrong in our private or public world, or by questions, doubts and concerns.

When such things happen and life seems to be getting out of control, the above scripture is one to which I turn. What’s happening is that anxieties are overcrowding my heart, and I need to calm down and realize that Jesus is Lord. He’s in charge of me, not my negativity or my worries. Let’s submit our emotions to him.

Somehow in so doing order is restored, and peace reigns once more.

I love the JB Phillips translation of this verse: “You need neither fear their threats nor worry about them; simply concentrate on being completely devoted to Christ in your hearts”.

Next time your heart is troubled, whatever the cause, think to “simply concentrate on being completely devoted to Christ in your hearts”.

Help me, Father, when life is crowding in on me and I am becoming distraught emotionally, to set aside Jesus as Lord in my heart. In Jesus
’ name.
