“The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness.”
Psalm 41:3 (NIV)

I had a stroke over 20 years ago. Fortunately, it was a mini-stroke which lasted 30 seconds. It happened going down the M6 towards Birmingham. I felt the left hand side of my body disappear as it happened. Fortunately, the feeling came back. I mentioned it to my doctor who put me on tablets.

Then, 3 years ago, I had a proper stroke. It was during the hot weather and I fumbled my way home from work, and got home to find that my neighbour (who had listened to my wife who was in New York) had called the ambulance. They diagnosed a stroke and took me to hospital. The congregation were praying for me and I looked to God for help.

My face was disfigured, my right arm wouldn’t work and I almost lost the power of speech. I went home the next day and struggled to cope with the stroke. Fortunately, God was with me, because my right side started to work, my face disfiguration started to become OK and only my speech remained distinctly wobbly.

After 6 months I was OK apart from my speech and typing. I am amazed at how God has helped me to recover and give him thanks continually.

Holy Father, thank you so very much for looking after me all this time.
