GROW _ _

“Wisdom is good with an inheritance, and profitable to those who see the sun. For wisdom is a defence as money is a defence. But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.”
Ecclesiastes 7:11-12 (NKJV)

In the fourth in our series on GROWTH we will look at the W, which stands for Wisdom. We need wisdom in every area of our lives and especially to live in a world that increasingly regards Christianity and Christians as unimportant.

We need wisdom to know how and when to give; wisdom to develop, maintain and sometimes repair relationships; wisdom to know when we have an opportunity to serve, encourage, listen or preach. We need wisdom to know there is a big difference between today and the future we should be focused on (1 Corinthians 2:9).

As we ask God for wisdom (James 1:5) and then use it, we begin to enjoy life more because we make better decisions in any situation we face. We don’t automatically get every decision right, but we make fewer wrong ones which can have difficult consequences for us. As the scripture above tells us, wisdom gives life to those that have it. So looking at the leaders of our world today, at the decisions they make, the way they behave and what they do, it’s easy to see the lack of wisdom and vision.

How often are the problems we face in our daily lives caused by a lack of wisdom and vision on our part? Perhaps looking back, we can see situations we faced without properly using wisdom, and which caused problems for us and, maybe, others, too.

Growing in wisdom is a big part of our growth as Christians. And if we ask God for nothing else in our prayers, we should constantly be asking for wisdom.

Father, all wisdom comes from you. Help us to ask for and use wisdom so we are better examples to all those we meet on our path through life. In Jesus’ name we pray.
