A Winner Never Quits

And A Quitter Never Wins

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4:7 (NKJV)

There are many examples of men and women who have been successful winners, because they did not quit. Of course, there are good goals and bad goals. Let us look at worldly leaders like Gandhi who was a leader of the Indian Independence Movement against the British rule, employing non-violent civil disobedience. Nelson Mandela was an anti-apartheid revolutionary and spent many years in jail. Martin Luther King Jr. a Baptist minister, was a leader of the Civil Rights Movement and had a dream to see racism end in U.S.A. They were winners.

Let us look Biblical examples of winners. The Apostle Paul fought a good fight, finished the race and kept the faith in spite of the hardships and sufferings encountered in preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 11:23-33). But he was confident of the crown of righteousness reserved for him, as he wrote to Timothy (2 Timothy 4:8).

And our Saviour is the prime example of complete victory over sin, Satan and death. He is risen after facing blasphemy, rejection, hanging helplessly on the cross, bleeding profusely. He paid the ransom on our behalf, a perfect sacrifice acceptable to the Father. In contrast, Judas Iscariot was a quitter, who had every thing anyone could wish for, but he betrayed his Master Jesus, and hanged himself and met a tragic end.

The lesson for us is to fight a good fight and seek the kingdom of God, never giving up or looking back. Jesus said in Luke 9:62, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

We are on the Lord’s side, a winning team. Nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Jesus Christ, neither tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, peril, sword, death nor life or angels nor principalities—nothing (Romans 8:31-39). As far as God is concerned, His goal in bringing many sons and daughters to glory is fulfilled. Romans 8:29-30 reveals, “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.”

Let us not be quitters, for a quitter never wins. We are the winners in the Lord Jesus. Therefore, fight a good fight, finish the race, keep the faith, for a crown of righteousness is reserved for you too.

Prayer
Our Abba Father, I thank You for giving us the victory over our enemies—self, Satan and society. Please help us to make our election sure and endure to the end. I love You with all my heart, with all my mind, with all my soul and with all my strength. In Jesus name I pray.
Amen
