GR _ _ _ _

“Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud; instead, associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own estimation. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Give careful thought to do what is honourable in everyone’s eyes. If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
Romans 12:16-18 (CSB)

This is the second in our series on GROWTH and what we can learn from each letter of the word. The second letter, R, stands for Relationships. How are we doing in this vital, and occasionally very difficult, area?

Our primary relationship is with God and that comes from giving time to prayer and study as mentioned in the previous study. If our relationship with God is right, that will flow over into our other relationships.

Do we have relationships that need attention within our family, within our social circle, within our church, at our work? Do we have a relationship that needs mending or improving in some way?

If so let’s not jump in at the deep end, without thinking about it, and maybe end up making it worse. The first step is to take it to God in prayer, to ask for help and guidance as to why the relationship is not working. Whoever is at fault, you or the other person, it will take wisdom to approach it in the right way. Also be patient, you may not be able to improve it immediately, so be prepared for it to take both time and effort.

In the scripture above we are told to live at peace with everyone, as far as it depends on us. That is quite a challenge in our stressful, impatient modern world, but the better we can do it the more peace we will have.

Giving time to all our relationships is an important part of our Christian growth.

Prayer
Loving Father, our relationship with you is the key to success in our relationships with everyone else. Give us humility, wisdom and a peaceful spirit as we do our part to build and maintain good relationships in every area of our lives. In Jesus name we pray.

Amen
