Say What You See

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 (NIV)

Have you ever watched the game show “Catchphrase” on the TV? Contestants are shown a short animation and have to guess the catchphrase represented by the pictures. When the players are having trouble guessing, the compere often encourages them with the words “Say what you see.”

We are given the task of being witnesses to Jesus and this task may seem daunting. We may wonder how to go about it. Should we quote scripture? Give a sermon? Have all our arguments prepared?

In a Court of Law, a witness is not expected to know all about the law or to give their opinion. They are simply expected to tell what they have seen or heard. It is then up to the jury to decide how they will respond to the information. It’s the same for us. We are to tell others our story, what Jesus has done and is doing in our lives, then leave it up to them to decide how they respond.

So next time you are wondering how to be a witness for Jesus just “Say what you have seen.”

Dear Lord, please give us the words to speak to others about you by saying what we have seen.
