A Very Big Mistake!

“And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.”
Romans 8:30 (NIVUK)

The world in which we live today is full of distractions. There are many things competing for our precious time and attention. Some of these things and pursuits are legitimate or necessary, others are just a waste of time and energy that keep us away from focussing on what really matters in life.

To live our lives and carry on business as if God does not exist and Jesus is irrelevant is a very big mistake. Why? Because God does exist and Jesus is the most relevant Person in the entire universe! “’For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’” (Acts 17:28).

In the anchor scripture above, there are four theological topics mentioned: predestination, election, justification and glorification. There are many books written, sermons given and theological papers presented on these topics. So, what can be stated about these topics in a short article like this? It is the fact that in each of these salvation activities, God is the One doing the work involved with predestination, election, justification and glorification. For those who live their lives as if God exists and are believers in Jesus Christ, they have been predestined, elected and are right now in the process of being made righteous (justified). Glorification will come at the return of Jesus to inaugurate the Kingdom of God here on earth.

There is an amazing and exciting future for all who believe that God exists and Jesus is very relevant. “However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’—the things God has prepared for those who love him”…”So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” (1 Corinthians 2:9; 2 Corinthians 4:18).

Prayer
Father, please give us eyes to discern the times in which we live, so that we may fix our eyes and thoughts on Jesus and not be distracted by the deceptions of the enemy. In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen
