Fake News

“Then the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’”
Genesis 3:4-5 (NKJV)

Fake News has become Collins Dictionary’s word of the year 2017. Its definition: false, often sensational information disseminated under the guise of news reporting. There is nothing new under the sun. In Isaiah 5:20 we read, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” News media is so much saturated with mixed messages, that it has become very difficult to know what is right and what is wrong, who is telling the truth and who is telling the lies.

Fake news was introduced long time ago in the Garden of Eden by Satan. I am not surprised by all the talk of fake news—it has become a way of life for fallen mankind.

Jesus warned the disciples saying, “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many” (Matthew 24:4-5). Another stark warning is given by the Apostle Paul in Acts 20:28-32, “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock…men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves…therefore watch and remember that…I did not cease to warn everyone…So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”

“And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.” So says the Apostle Paul having concern for the brethren (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). There is lot of spiritual fake news around. 1 John 4:1 says to try the spirits whether they are of God. Jeremiah writes, “Thus says the Lord: Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord…Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord” (Jeremiah17:5, 7).

Fake news is very real. Trust in the Lord and be on guard all the time to avoid it.

Loving Father, I thank you for helping us to live godly lives and be honest. Help us to avoid Satan’s fake news. In Jesus name I pray and praise You, for You are a God Who cannot lie.
