Unto Us A Child Is Born

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder, His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end…The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
Isaiah 9:6-7 (NKJV)

This Child was no ordinary Child—He was the Word of God by whom all things were created. He became flesh, thus fulfilling the first part of the prophecy, and will complete it at His second coming in glory.

Let us look first at explicit prophesies of His coming, from Genesis 3:15 where He is referred to as the Seed. Then to Isaiah 7:14, which says a virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel—fulfilled according to Matthew 1:18-23 when Mary was found with Child of the Holy Spirit, and that Holy One was to be called the Son of God as it says in Luke 1:35. He was born a King, and of His Kingdom there will be no end (prophesied in Isaiah 9 above). Later, Joseph and Mary had to go to Bethlehem because of the decree of Caesar Augustus. There her days were completed and she gave birth to Jesus, whom she wrapped in swaddling cloths and put Him in the manger, for there was no room for them in the inn. God’s angel revealed this to the shepherds in the fields saying, “behold, I bring good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.” And the multitude of heavenly host began praising God saying: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men!’” (Luke 2:8-14).

When He was a young Child, about 2 years old, wise men came from the East and paid homage to Him as the King of Jews, returning to their country another way. King Herod was angry and killed all the male children in that region who were two years old and under. Joseph was warned by God to take Jesus and Mary to Egypt, fulfilling yet two more prophecies as recorded in Matthew 2:1-16. He grew, and when He was twelve years old, His parents found Him in the Temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking questions. And those who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers (Luke 2:46-47). The rest of the mighty works, miracles, signs and wonders that He performed are recorded in the four gospels.

This Child was the Lamb of God sacrificed for the sin of the world, but He is coming as the Lion of Judah to sit upon the throne of David, take over the kingdoms of this world and shall reign forever in righteousness bringing peace and joy on earth (Revelation 11:15 with Daniel 2:44-45 and Revelation 5:5).

Abba, Father, thank You for Your Son, the Saviour of the World. In Jesus name I pray.
