Listen For The Still Small Voice

“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever…the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”
John 14:15-16, 26 (NKJV)

The Holy Spirit dwells in all of us who belong to Jesus, and reveals the mind of God. The Holy Spirit is our Teacher, and one of the Spirit’s purposes is to reveal to us God’s wisdom and revelation. Read John 16:13 where Jesus tells his disciples that the Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth. It is vital that we all spend time in prayer, study and meditation every day, as this will enable the Holy Spirit to do this.

While the Holy Spirit wants to enlighten our minds, it is easy for us not to hear what the Spirit is attempting to reveal to us, because our human thoughts are shouting too loud. The many cares and distractions of the world prevent us from focusing on the teachings and ways of Christianity. Our minds should not be so filled with reasoning, worry, anxiety, and fear that we don’t have time for God. It should be calm, quiet, and serene through the Holy Spirit in us. 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

The ways of the Holy Spirit are gentle and most of the time speaks to us as if in the ‘’still small voice’’ spoken of by Elijah in 1 Kings 19:11-12. So it is vital that we all learn to keep ourselves in a condition conducive to hearing God’s divine revelation, whether it is through reading his word and applying the principles to our lives; through wise counsel, or through the circumstances that open up opportunities that help us live godly lives.

Father, please help us all not to worry about the cares of this world, but to be calm and still so that we are able to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit.
