Forever With The Lord

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
John 14:3 (NIV)

If you use a red-letter Bible, you will immediately see that the words of the anchor scripture above were said by Jesus Christ. We are instructed to take what he says seriously. At his baptism “A voice came from the cloud, saying. ‘This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him’” (Luke 9:35) And in Acts 3:23 we read, “Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.”

When Jesus said that he is going to prepare a place for us, he meant exactly what he said: Why should it be otherwise? We can all speculate as to where this place is and what it looks like? The very fact that God himself is the One who is working on preparing this place for each of us, means that it will be perfect and beautiful. Something that will suit our individual transformed personality. It is something to anticipate which will keep us motivated.

Wherever we live today is not our permanent home. “For this world in its present form is passing away” (1 Corinthians 7:31). Things may appear permanent. Do not be blinded—it is temporary. The place that God has prepared for us is permanent. We will live with Jesus forever! Read it in 1 Thessalonians 4:17: “…And so we will be with the Lord forever.”

Can we be absolutely certain that all of this is true, and not a figment of our imaginations? Yes, we can. One hundred percent absolutely certain. 2 Corinthians 1:20 says, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.” Verse 22 goes on to explain that this amazing inheritance is guaranteed.

Father in heaven and Jesus our Lord, by the Spirit I pray and thank you for this wonderful place that you have prepared for me, where I can share in your life forever.
