The Great Flood

Thus I establish My Covenant with you: never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again there shall be a flood to destroy the earth.”
Genesis 9:11 (NKJV)

There was an unprecedented flood that destroyed everything, with only the family of Noah and all the creatures that were in the ark saved. This is not to frighten anyone but to remind us what happened long ago. The good news is that God made a Covenant with Noah giving him a sign of a rainbow that there would not be a flood on that scale again.

Let us look at the scale of the destruction caused by hurricane Harvey. It is described as the most catastrophic and devastating storm, flooding a huge area of the coastal region of Texas. I am writing this after only two days of hurricane striking the land. All the newscasters are unable to put in words the hopelessness of the people caught up in the path of the hurricane. Much is being done to save the lives of the people and rescue efforts by many agencies and individuals are being employed vigorously. I am sitting comfortably in my home watching the news unfolding before my eyes and trying to imagine what would be going on in the minds of those who are actually experiencing this situation of helplessness. No! I cannot. I hope and pray that there are no more casualties or deaths.

My incessant prayer to God Almighty is that He would intervene and give hope and comfort to those who are rescued and taken to the shelters set up in safe areas, not knowing when they will be able go back to their homes, most likely ruined by the time waters have receded.

These are days of great sorrows and suffering, wherever you look. Always there is news of tragedy and pain and anguish. When I watch the news and see the futility of mankind in solving the problems the world is facing today, my plea to God is, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on this earth as it is in heaven.”

And certainly my prayer today is for those who are affected by hurricane Harvey in Texas and surrounding regions and hoping they will soon be re-established in their homes or suitable locations to start their lives again, which surely will be a big task and take a considerable time to settle down and normalise life in badly affected areas.

Father God, I thank You for hearing our prayers for each other in times of such need as many people are facing in Texas. Please give them comfort and hope at this hour of their despair and helplessness. I pray and ask this in Jesus name, the Saviour of all mankind.
