The Past, The Present And The Future

“Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure.’”
Isaiah 46:9-10 (NKJV)

Do you want to find out the past, understand the present and look into the glorious future? It is possible. Look no further. The Bible is the book that can reveal history in a nutshell—what happened in the past, what is happening at the present and what is going to happen in the future. Amos 3:7 says, “Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.” There are certain things which only He knows, which belong to God. Deuteronomy 29:29 reads, “The secret things belong to God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever…”

In eternity past, only God existed, as it says in John 1:1-3, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. All things were made through Him…” The Old Testament contains the story of creation and the beginning of human history, from Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, who were later thrown out as a result of their disobedience. Then followed the flood because of evil and violence, with only Noah and his family being saved. Later Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were called, and the Bible follows the history of Israel; but they, too, disobeyed and they were taken into captivity as punishment from God. The Old Testament record ends with the return from the Babylonian captivity to occupy the land of Israel once again.

Then came Jesus, the Messiah, who was rejected and crucified, but was raised again from the grave; who paid the ransom for all mankind and forgave their sins. He built the Church which is the Body of Christ. There was persecution on the followers over the centuries, but His Church has prevailed.

Today we are living in perilous times. It is a ‘present evil world’ as says the Apostle Paul in Galatians 1:4, from which God has delivered us. Yes, there is doom and gloom as we survey the horrible things that are taking place all over the world, and certainly there is no peace in spite of the gathering of leaders to seek peace and harmony. Peace is not possible by human efforts, but we must not despair—God has revealed that He will send His Son Jesus Christ again, to introduce a peaceful world. No more wars and killing. Then there will be new heavens and new earth, and God will dwell with His people (Revelation 21:1-4).

I have given you the glimpse of the past, the present and the future—a bird’s eye view, the tip of the iceberg. I thank God for the Holy Bible which reveals truth.

Father God, I thank you for revealing your plan. I praise You in Jesus’ holy name.
