Worship God With Reverence And Awe

“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.”
Hebrews 12:28 (NKJV)

The God of the Bible is my God. He has revealed Himself through the Holy Scriptures. For me there is one God the Father and one Lord Jesus Christ, Mediator between men and God, though there be many so-called gods (1Corinthians 8:5-6).

I have come face to face with some of the many scriptures staring at me, revealing the holiness, the purity and perfection of Eternal God. My heart is pierced by the two edged sword of God’s word as I read the scriptures that reveal God’s holiness, for He is Light and there is no darkness in Him at all (1 John 1:5).

I am naked before Him and I cannot hide my sins from Him. When Job encountered God face to face, he said, “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You. Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes” (Job 42:5-6).

When Moses approached the burning bush, he was told to remove his sandals from his feet for the ground was holy (Exodus 3:4-5). I am emboldened to say I am holy and every one who would believe Holy Scriptures is holy. Every step I take is a holy ground, for God’s presence goes with me. Proof is found in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17, “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?…For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” See also 2 Corinthians 6:16, “For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: I will dwell in them…I will be their God and they shall be My people.”

In Revelation we find the four living creatures rest not day or night saying, “’Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come’…the twenty-four elders fall down before Him Who sits on the throne and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, ‘You are worthy O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power, for You created all things and by Your will they exist and were created’” (Revelation 4:8-11). We, too, can come before the throne of God through Jesus Christ boldly and join the holy angels to worship Him, Who is holy, pure, perfect and righteous, with reverence and awe and godly fear.

Father, holy God, I thank You for Your grace poured on us, that we can come before Your throne of grace boldly with reverence and awe to worship You. In Jesus’ name I praise You.
