All You Need Is Love

“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”
1 John 4:16 (NIV)

All You Need Is Love” is a song by the Beatles in July 1967. The following is a quote from the lyrics:
No one you can save that can’t be saved.
…Nothing you can know that isn’t known.
Nothing you can see that isn’t shown
”.
The refrain “All you need is love, Love. Love is all you need.” is repeated numerous times.

According to the Bible, God is love. God is a love relationship of the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit. As believers, we have been invited and included in this relationship! “God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” (1 Corinthians 1:9). God eagerly desires that we participate in his love relationship. “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit”. (Ephesians 1:13). Jesus has instructed us about this special relationship. “Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind’” (Matthew 22:37). God has already demonstrated his great love for us by sending Jesus to rescue and save us. We have also been given a new command to implement in this relationship. “A new command I give you: Love one another as I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34).

This is not the kind of love the Beatles were singing about! But it is the love that we all need—God’s love. The only love that will make a difference. As his children, the Father has lavished his love on us (1 John 3:1). Jesus demonstrated his love for us by sacrificing his life (1 John 3:16). Believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit, and the first fruit of the Spirit is love. It is LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, all the way. All you need is love. The love of the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Prayer
Father in heaven, thank you for calling me into a love relationship with Jesus. And including me in the love relationship that you have with the Holy Spirit and your Son. In his name I pray.
Amen
