Are You Profiting From The Scriptures?

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV)

How can we profit from the scripture? The cardinal rule is to acknowledge and believe that God’s word is truth, as it says in John 17:17. It is a great benefit that “you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). But an important factor is that we cannot come to true knowledge without the Holy Spirit who opens our mind (1 Corinthians 2:10-14). Thankfully, God has given us His Spirit (1 John 4:13).

The most profitable moment in the life of a Christian is when one believes and lives by the word of God. They are words of eternal life (John 6:63, 68). It is vital that we feed upon the word of God daily so that it becomes part of us internally. For we are told to live by every word of God (Matthew 4:4). Job 23:12 says “I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.” Do we hunger for God’s word?

God’s word is sharper than the two-edged sword, living and powerful, piercing our soul and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). 2 Timothy 2:15 says, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” We are to use it as the sword of the spirit against our enemy the devil (Ephesians 6:10-17).

I have had the privilege to study God’s word since 1962—from the time God opened my eyes. I have to admit continually that I still have much to learn, but have profited much already. I have to ask myself, am I building a bigger barn to store my knowledge, or am I sharing the profit with others? I hope God will guide me and help me to share with others what I have freely received.

There is a great treasure hidden in the scripture. All we have to do is dig deeper and profit from the scripture so readily available to us in this country. God says we are to be profitable servants and grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, to let the mind of Jesus Christ be developed in us. We have to study both the Old and New Testaments to know the whole counsel of God. Timothy says all scripture is profitable for instruction. Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

Prayer
Father in heaven, I thank you for giving us your holy scripture profitable for our salvation in Christ Jesus, who is worthy of praise and honour. In Lord Jesus’ name I pray.
Amen

It is encouraging to read articles like this one by Natu Moti “Are You Profiting From The Scriptures?” when the integrity of the scriptures is under attack ,not only from outside the body of Christ but also from within!!!
