The Gift Of Salvation

“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!”
2 Corinthians 9:15 (NKJV)

Can we appreciate the indescribable gifts of God? Other translations render this the ‘unspeakable gift of God’. Though we cannot describe the indescribable or speak the unspeakable, nevertheless we must try to remind ourselves by looking into the holy scriptures.

We know all perfect gifts are from above (James 1:17). So, let me start with the gift of salvation. It is absolutely free through the grace of God. Ephesians 2:4-9 tells us that “God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us…made us alive together with Christ…to show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” And this is confirmed by other scriptures including Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:32 carries on this thought with, “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things.”

This free gift of salvation was made possible by the gift of the Son of God, who came as the Lamb of God to be a sacrifice for the sins of mankind (John 1:29). The well-know verse, John 3:16, says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Then later in 1 John 4:9-10 we read “In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” I cannot find words to speak about the great sacrifice of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, but it was sufficient to pay the ransom for all mankind.

It is God who chose us before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:3-4). No human being can put value to these indescribable gifts of God bestowed upon mankind. He is our Bountiful Blesser and Gracious Giver who loads us with benefits, as it says in Psalm 68:19. I am dumb before our Father, but do rejoice in the Spirit, for He is worthy to be praised, adored, loved and worshiped. I say with King David in Psalm 103:1 “Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is in me, bless His holy name!”

Father in heaven, I thank you for all your precious gifts to mankind. I love You for You loved me first. May the world come to know You and receive the blessing freely given to me. In Christ Jesus’ name I ask.
