God’s Loving-Kindness Remembered

“…for I know that You are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in loving-kindness, One who relents from doing harm.”
Jonah 4:2 (NKJV)

Sometimes we need to bring to mind—to remember that God desires to pour out His mercy and loving-kindness upon us; this is something that He delights to do! He says to Jeremiah; “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, exercising loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord.” (Jeremiah 9:23-24).

Both Jeremiah and Isaiah often preached and prophesied about God’s punishment for sin, but in spite of these dark prognostications they also remembered the mercy and loving-kindnesses of God. Notice what Isaiah says here; “I will tell the loving-kindnesses of the Lord, and the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, according to all that the Lord has done for us, and His great goodness toward the house of Israel, which He has shown them according to His compassion and according to the abundance of His loving-kindnesses.” (Isaiah 63:7 AMP). Both of these great men kept coming back and remembering the overwhelming mercy and kindness of God despite Israel’s constant forgetfulness!

These are some of the things that we need to be sharing with others—it is great that we understand this part of God’s character and nature, but we also need to be passing it on. The fact that God is not mad at us, He is not continually angry with us when we make mistakes but He extends His amazing grace and loving-kindness to us at every opportunity.

King David declares in one of his psalms, “I have not concealed Your righteousness within my heart; I have proclaimed Your faithfulness and Your salvation. I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great assembly. Do not withhold Your compassion and tender mercy from me, O Lord; Your lovingkindness and Your truth will continually preserve me!” (Psalm 40:10-11 AMP). Let’s share this truth; that we have a loving, tender Father who cares about us and we have a Saviour who is always ready to bless, comfort and serve us. One who is available to us 24/7! Then we and others can shout aloud with the psalmist: “Because your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You!” (Psalm 63:3 AMP).

Prayer
Honour, praise, and glory are Yours, great God, for all Your loving-kindnesses. May we always remember Your tender love and forgiveness.
Amen
