The Living God

“Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”
Mark 9:37 (NKJV)

Some of my family and friends have yet to know Jesus. On a recent family visit, one of them blasphemed and my five year old responded, ‘Do you mean the living God?’ Her response surprised me as much as it did the person to whom it was addressed. I would never have the audacity to say such a thing. There was no cheek in the question, just a sincere look from my daughter which demanded an honest answer.

The relative in question paused and there was a silence for a minute before they replied, “I will have to be careful what I say around you…”

I was reminded of the scripture, Psalm 8:2, “Out of the mouth of babes and infants you have ordained strength.”

So much joy can be found in watching children play, in hearing their laughter, in seeing their joy (a gift of the holy spirit, Galatians 5:22). Famously, Jesus says, ‘“Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.” (Matthew 18:2-5)

Prayer
Lord God, thank you for the gift of children in this world. Let us always remember how precious they are in your sight. Let us not withhold the blessing of receiving them into our lives. In Jesus’ Name.
Amen
