The Power of Sins Forgiven

“But that you may know that the son of man has power on earth to forgive sins.”
Matthew 9:6 (NKJV)

Here Jesus explains why, to heal a paralytic man, he said, “Son be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you,” as he had in verse 2, instead of ‘Arise and walk’ (Matthew 9:5 & 6).

When the power of God moves in your life in a tangible way for others to see, do you raise up the act, or do you raise up God?

As a young Christian, I remember always being bemused and a little baffled by the energy and enthusiasm of some of the older members in the church I attended. Even as their health failed, and they lost loved ones due to illness, they remained the ones with the loudest voices and the most exuberant bounce during worship. I marvelled to one that he didn’t look 81 and his response was this; ‘It is because I am joyful, always joyful, because I know Jesus.

This man made a lasting impression on me. As followers of Jesus, our lives are transformed by his power on earth to forgive sins. When others witness that transformation, let us not forget to point them to the source.

We humbly accept the new life given to us through Jesus Christ. As we walk, gifted with the Holy Spirit, the grace of Jesus, and the sword of the word, people will witness our transformation—let them know that the great works they see are because of the power of Jesus on earth to forgive sins.
