For All People

“Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people’”
Luke 2:10 (NKJV)

Non-Christians may think that the story of the birth of Jesus is just for Christians or for those interested in Christianity.

The opposite is the truth. The birth of Jesus is, as the historian Luke notes above, a joyful event for “all people”.

Why is that? What relevance does the birth of Jesus Christ have for all who live now, who have ever lived, and who will live in the future? And what is it to do with joy?

The answer is that Jesus is the Saviour, not just for Christians, but for the whole world. The child Jesus grew up to sacrifice himself for us. “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:2 NIV).

The reason that Jesus gave his life for us was for “the joy that was set before him” (Hebrews 12:2), meaning the joy of his receiving us into his eternal salvation. That’s why his birth is “good tidings of great joy for all people”.

Let’s celebrate Christ! His birth is for each and every one of us!

Wonderful Father, thank you for the birth of Jesus that is truly good news of great joy for all of humanity. In Jesus’ name.
