The First Child

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call his name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.’”
Matthew 1:18-21 (NKJV)

Have you ever heard of First Child syndrome? All first time mothers have it to some extent, but the main sufferers are film stars, TV stars and celebrities. Each of them talks and writes, or are written about, as if no one has ever had a child before. It’s quite amusing and harmless enough, but mums who have had two, or three, or more children, can be forgiven for having a wry smile as these famous people think their experience is totally unique and so important it must be shared with the world.

In fact only two mothers can ever claim to have had the First Child. In the Old Testament Eve was the first mother to give birth to a physical child. (Genesis 4:1) But of far greater importance, in the New Testament, the Virgin Mary gave birth to the first child who was fully God and fully human, as the scripture above tells us. But it also tells us that this was a unique first child because it says, “For He will save His people from their sins.”

Only God can forgive sins, ( Hebrews 9:11-15) so the birth of God, in human form is the greatest good news that humanity can have. Although not a popular notion in the world today, we all need the forgiveness of our sins, and the first and only God-child, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, came to earth for that very purpose.

As awesome as it seems, Jesus lived a perfect human life for us, repented for us, was baptized for us, died an agonizing death for us, was resurrected for us and lives now as our High Priest and soon coming King.

Don’t fight life’s battles on your own, be a relaxed Christian, knowing it all depends on what Jesus, God in the flesh, has already done for us.

Our loving Father, thank you for Christ’s birth as a human to fight a battle that He alone could win for us. Help us to realize the price paid willingly for us and the icredible love that underpins all you have done, are doing, and will do for us.

    Hello Keith
I have read the whole bible many times and nowhere does it say that God was born. It says in 1 John 3:3 that Jesus is come in the flesh. It does not say that God came in the flesh.
You need to do an extensive study of this subject as there are many books written about it.
I hope you are feeling better and I will pray that you make a full recovery. As the bible says in 1Pet 2:24 we are already healed just like our sins are forgiven past ,present and future.
God Bless you and your family
