Let Your Light Shine

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden..”
Matthew 5:14 (NKJV)

In order to produce light and power there must be an energy force. In the home we use electricity or some other form of power. When we connect to that power supply, we receive light and power. If we do not plug the kettle into the electric socket it will never boil.

The same is true with Christians—we will never let our light shine until we are connected to a power source. That power source is God, whom we receive when we accept Jesus as our Lord and saviour. “For it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” (2 Corinthians 4:6-7.

When Jesus is first in our lives (and He must be first), we connect to the power of the Holy Spirit enabling our lights to shine in this world, which is filled with so much darkness.

The more that we serve others the brighter our lights will shine! Philippians 2:14-16 says, “Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.”

Prayer
Help us Father, to connect to you, the source of our light.
Amen
