God Our Comforter

“I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you should be afraid…And you forget the Lord your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundation of the earth…”
Isaiah 51:12-13 (NKJV)

How great is our Creator? He has stretched out almost 2,000,000,000,000 [two trillion] galaxies according to one of the astronomers. Our Milky Way galaxy is among one of them. In it is our solar system, hardly visible, and our Earth is just a speck in this great universe. We are just a puny little creature on this earth, yet our Maker says, “I, even I, am He who comforts you.”

That is awesome reality, because He has personally chosen to dwell in us by his Spirit according to 2 Corinthians 6:16-18. He is our Father who is our comforter. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with a comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). Is there any doubt? No way. He indeed is Most High Creator God who does not change—with Him there is no shadow of turning. He is faithful, giver of all perfect gifts, and brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures (James 1:17-18).

Moreover, He thinks thoughts toward us, thoughts to prosper us and to give peace (Jeremiah 29:11). In Psalm 34:17 & 19 we have very assuring promises: “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” He will never leave us or forsake us according to Hebrews 13:5. And all things work together for good to those who love God, who are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

Personally, I hold on to these promises which have been very comforting to me in my difficult trials. There are so many more, equally comforting, promises of God Almighty in the Holy Bible. One that is close to my heart is found in Isaiah 26:3-4. “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for in YAH, the Lord, is everlasting strength.”

I hope and pray that God will give you comfort in time of your trials in this present evil and dangerous world. Never forget His promise, “I, even I, am He who comforts you.” Philippians 4:6-7 says “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.” Grace and peace and comfort be showered upon you by our God of all comforts.

Father in heaven, I thank you for comforting us daily in our lives through Jesus Christ our Lord, for there is no other name by which we can be saved. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
