Hope As An Anchor Of Our Soul

“Thus God…by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”
Hebrews 6:17-20 (NKJV)

The word anchor is defined firstly, as a heavy object attached to a cable or a chain used to moor a ship to the sea bottom, typically having a metal shank with curved barbed flukes at the end to prevent the craft from drifting due to wind or current. There are all kinds of anchors, big and small, used by the seaman.

Secondly, the word anchor can be defined as a person or thing which provides stability or confidence in an otherwise uncertain situation Do we have an anchor? If not, we will drift in the stormy sea of our life as we are tossed to and fro in this world which has lost its mooring.

We need not fear. For Jesus Christ is the anchor of our life. No matter what storms will assail us, Christ has the power to calm them and will not allow us to drift (Matthew 8:26-27). As children of God, we look for the hope and glorious appearing of our Lord who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself, His own special people, zealous for good works, as we read in Titus 2:13-14.

The word of God is so fascinating to me, giving us hope in our despair. As I read in Colossians 1:27-28, “to them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory, Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.”

Christ is the hope as an anchor of our soul as we looked into with the header scripture, and any one who has this hope in Him, purifies himself, just as He is pure (1 John 3:3). We have to be anchored to the Word of God to have this hope as an anchor of our soul through Jesus. Christ is the Word—He is the way, the truth, and the life. Our hope of glory is in our Lord, Jesus.

Abba, Father, God of grace and glory, mercy and kindness, I thank You for giving us hope through our Lord Jesus Christ in this unstable world. There is no other name by which we can be saved. With sincerity, help us to believe this truth. In Jesus name I ask.
