Shine Full Power

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Mathew 5:14-16 (NKJV)

How do we get our lights to shine more brightly so that we can glorify our Father in heaven? The answer is very simple, our lights should not be powered by our human spirit, but rather by the Holy Spirit! The more that we walk with the Holy Spirit, the brighter our lights will shine.

We read in 1 Thessalonians 5:19 “Quench not the Spirit.” A dimmer switch turns down the lights—they are not off, but they shine dimly. Allowing too much of the human desires to permeate our lives is rather like having the dimmer switch turned to ‘low’.

Even if you put a light under a basket, as in the scripture above, you can still see it, but very dimly. The more we allow ourselves to walk in the lust of the flesh, the dimmer our lights will become. We are advised in Galatians 5:16, “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”

We are saved by grace and Romans 6:1-2 says “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?” None of us do this perfectly, but God still loves us and will never give up on us! Grace is the reason to resist sin, not freedom to continue in it!

This world is becoming very dark! And it needs to see the light of Jesus shining brightly from all of our lives. Let us all allow the Holy Spirit to turn up our lights to full power.

Prayer
Father God, please help us all to submit to the Power of the Holy Spirit so that our lights can shine brightly and glorify You in all that we do.
Amen
