Wars And Rumours of Wars

“And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.”
Matthew 24:6-7 (NKJV)

2014 observed the centenary of the beginning of World War 1. It remembered the millions who died during the war, which also devastated many cities. But the ‘War to end all the wars’ did not stop the Second World War, in which millions upon millions lost their lives, and there was again destruction of many cities of the world.

Has mankind learnt the lesson? From what we see happening in the world today , it is obvious we are again going the same way—the path of war. Are we surprised at the present wars, violence, killing and destruction taking place almost in every corner of the earth?

Furthermore, we see the horrendous situation of refugees, people in their millions, displaced from their own homes with starvation and diseases taking toll of many lives, and with no end in sight. We are living in perilous times. Even the political leaders are echoing that we are living in a dangerous world.

However true peace is coming, but not the way world is trying to achieve it. For Christians know the only way to peace is Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. And He is coming to usher in the peace the world desperately needs. Then there will be no more wars, no more tears.

“Now it shall come to pass in the latter days…He shall judge between the nations, and shall rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; Nations shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” (Isaiah 2:2, 4)

Prayer
Father in heaven, please send our Saviour to bring lasting peace on this troubled planet. That is my earnest request, asking in the name of your Son.
Amen
