A Special Calling

“Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, my soul has no pleasure in him.”
Hebrews 10:38 (NKJV)

God has called us into fellowship with Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 1:9). This calling is very special. It means that we have been drawn into a love relationship with the Son of God! It is the ultimate calling that we can receive and does not get any better, as you realize who Jesus really is—the Creator of the universe. “For by him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:16). The end phrase “for him” means that you and I have been created and given life so that we can be drawn into a love relationship with Jesus. To be his companions, friends, brothers, sisters and at his Return, to be his bride as belonging to the church, which Jesus promised that he will build (Revelation 19:7).

No one can come to Jesus unless the Father draws them. The Holy Spirit then unites us to him, making us one in spirit with him. So what shall we do with this special calling? Jesus represents the kingdom of God. Therefore, we can regard this calling as “the pearl of great price” or “treasure hidden in a field”. In other words, we make it the most important thing in our lives. What could be more important? This relationship is not fleeting or temporary. Not even death can separate us from this union. It is for eternity!

Beware of the cares of this life which compete for our attention. This special calling cannot be revoked, changed, reversed, recalled, it is unable to be repealed or annulled. It is unalterable. There is no going back with this amazing calling. Compared to our future glory, there is nothing for us to go back to! “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable”. (Romans 11:29).

Prayer
Thank you, Father, for the great love that you have lavished on us in calling us into such a close relationship with our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen
