Going the Extra Mile

“At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said, ‘I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me’.”

Matthew 18:1‑4 (NIV)

One day, when my daughter was looking after her 3 year old granddaughter Helena, she needed to use the bathroom.  As usual Helena was half a pace behind her.  My daughter said, “Wait outside a minute.  I will not be long”.

On leaving the bathroom, my daughter could not find Helena.  She found her waiting outside the back door!  On discovering Helena, she felt such joy and relief.

I wonder if God feels joy when we obey Him?  Especially if we go a step or two further than asked. Christ suggests that if someone asks you to accompany him or her for one mile, go two miles (Matthew 5:41). What about God? Will you go the extra mile with Him?

Father, teach me to be as humble as a little child, ready to receive Your words and to obey Your will.

Thank you, I will try to go the extra mile today and I hope every day. If I stop, I will come back to this study and be reminded.

Got something to say?
