Eye, Eye, Sir!

“Eye has not seen a God except You, who works for him who waits for Him.”
Isaiah 64:4 (LITV)

Some things are so much easier said than done, but none-the-less we need to aim for them. Which eye we use is one of them. Not the right eye or the left eye, but rather the physical eye or the spiritual one.

Because we are physical beings it is hard to not be swayed by what we see and are aware of physically. Those physical things are all too obvious and can cause us physical or emotional pain, if not both.

However, we mustn’t ignore the spiritual aspect. God cares about us and all aspects of our lives. (1 Peter 5:7) He’s involved and wants to be our main support, strength and helper. The Bible is full of His love for us, His promises and examples of both being manifested in people’s lives. Hebrews 11 lists some, but admits that there are too many to include them all.

Having read and absorbed such knowledge and examples, we need to trust our spiritual eye—to trust what we know, in spite of what we physically see and feel. Oh, it is so hard at times, so very hard, but still we need to follow God’s instruction to “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day:” (Exodus 14:13 KJV)

Do you remember this chorus? I learnt it in my childhood:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus.
Look full in His wonderful face.
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

Look – using your spiritual eye.

Prayer
Dear Faithful Father, thank You for Your love and promises, for all the examples in the Bible, culminating in Jesus’ death and resurrection. Please help us to trust our spiritual eye and to keep that firmly fixed on You. In and through Jesus’ precious Name.
Amen
