You Were Running Well

“You were running the race nobly, who has interfered in (hindered and stopped you from) your heeding and following the Truth?”
Galatians 5:7 (AMP)

Both the Liverpool Marathon and Caen Marathon de la Liberte in Caen, France took place on 14 June 2015 and the Big Five Marathon in South African is due to be run on 20 June.  The marathon race is one of the greatest tests of individual endurance and in the western world, has resulted in an extraordinary history of physical ability, of daring, courage, foolhardiness, drama and tragedy. The interesting word “marathon” refers to an endurance contest of twenty-six miles 385 yards. The marathon is also a geographic location in Greece, made famous in 490 BC as the Battle of Marathon culminated in the fatal run to deliver the news of victory. The last mile of a marathon can be brutal.

The Apostle Paul used the analogy of the physical marathon to show that the spiritual marathon of the Christian life is just as enduring and brutal as the physical marathon, and even more so.

I was blessed to be given a free ticket to the 2012 Olympics in London. It so happened the ticket was for the ladies marathon. I was seated near the starting line. A few of the runners dropped out at the start, some along the way. Others were sick after running for a while, but a large number finished the race.  The physical marathon stops at twenty-six miles and 385 yards, the Christian marathon is a continuous race for life.

You were running well—don’t give up!

Prayer
Dear Lord, grant us the mental, physical and most of all, the spiritual strength to run the spiritual marathon until the end. In Jesus name.
Amen
