Living Water For The Thirsty

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive;”
John 7:37-39 (NKJV)

Psalm 42:2 describes the Psalmist’s thirst for God (Living water). As Christians, we too must thirst for the living water that God provides through his Son, Jesus, our Saviour. H2O will only quench our physical thirst for a short while until our next thirst comes again, but Jesus offers life-giving water which imparts eternal life, and which renews us daily as we read in 2 Corinthians 4:16, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.”

In John 4 where Jesus encountered the Samaritan woman at the well, despite the woman’s past, her future changed because Jesus appeared to her at the well. Our future changed also because Jesus appeared to us. Only each one us can testify of where we were when Jesus called us. What hope we can draw from Titus 3:3-7, where we read “For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for the life-giving water of your Holy Spirit. We pray that we will never become weary of drinking the living water that you supply, which was all made available through your Son, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen
