Authority And Power

“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.’”
Matthew 28:18 (ESV)

What is very important to note is that all authority and power on earth has been given to Jesus Christ. That is very significant, it means that there is nothing on planet earth that does not come under Jesus’ authority. He has greater authority than all the leaders of the world, more authority than the United Nations! God the Father has given Jesus this amazing responsibility because he is the beloved Son with whom the Father is well pleased (Matthew 17:5).

We read in Mark 10:27 that there is nothing that is too difficult or impossible for God to do. Jesus went on to say in Matthew 28:19 because all authority was given to him, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” We witness in the power and authority of Jesus as he instructed in Acts 1:8.

There are many evils here on earth that we, who are the children of God, feel powerless to do anything about. But that need not be the case. We can do something about the things that grieve us in this present world. We can also participate in Jesus’ authority and power over those things by taking our concerns to the Lord in prayer. Jesus is able and willing to act on our behalf. He will never do anything that is contrary to the Father’s will. He will answer our prayers in a manner that is in the best interest of everyone.

Prayer
May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you! (Psalm 20:1)

Amen
