A Simple Prayer

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.”
Matthew 24:14 (NKJV)

As Christians we can look at the world today, within our own country or in the wider world, with despair. The media seem focused primarily on the bad news, the negative, the depressing! We know the world is a difficult place to live in for so many who are suffering in different ways. They need to hear and know the good news of the gospel, to know they will live in a far better world in the future.

Human nature does not change and we can see the worst of it in the headlines today. For example many Christians in China are being persecuted for their faith, required to pull down crosses from church buildings and to put up pictures of China’s president Xi in place of any religious image.* Some churches are being forcibly closed and their pastors arrested. Then it seems there is always a famine in some part of the world with people starving; always wars going on somewhere and more people being displaced and becoming refugees.

As Christians we long for and believe in a better world where everyone can flourish and love is everyone’s primary emotion and driving force. We are confident that Jesus Christ will return to usher in this new world. But what can we do about the world today? What can we do to speed the return of Christ?

As the scripture above shows, we can pray that this gospel will be preached in all the world for a witness to all nations—even those nations that are hostile to Christianity and Christians! Only God the Father will decide the time of Christ’s return (Matthew 24:36), but God listens to our prayers and maybe our united prayers for the gospel to be preached to all nations can make a difference. All the people of this world need the return of Jesus Christ just as much as we do! Remember, “Prayer changes things.”

Prayer
Loving Father, we need the return of Jesus Christ for the sake of all humanity, many of whom are suffering in this world today. Please let the gospel be preached to all nations so that Christ may return. In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen
