Walk In The Light

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.”
Ephesians 5:8-10 (NKJV)

Our dinner party went late into the night and I as prefer to chat with my guests, I often leave the cleaning up and dishes until the next morning. It was a dull, cloudy, dark winter morning and I cleaned my black cooker top before deciding to turn on the light. To my horror the kitchen light revealed the dirt my cloth had missed—I simply had not seen it in the dim light.

People are like that sometimes—they think they are doing OK and consider themselves good and upright until the light of Christ shines into their lives revealing sins they had been blind to in the dim light of today’s society. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12).

In Romans 7:7 Paul muses that “I would not have known sin except through the law.” People think it is OK to cheat on their tax returns, claim personal items on business expenses, and lie about pocketing change, until they read the Word of God which reveals sin. We might think they are little and insignificant things that don’t matter, and that we have got away with it. They said this in Isaiah 29:15, “And their works are in the dark; they say, ‘Who sees us?’”, but as it says in Luke 8:17, “For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.” Therefore, we should walk as children of light and put away lying, steal no more, put away bitterness, wrath, anger and evil speaking to be kind to one another, forgiving as God forgave us (Ephesians 4:17-32).

Prayer
Father, help us to walk in the light, in the righteousness of Christ and receive the forgiveness and inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Jesus (Acts 26:18).
Amen
