Google: Does God Exist?
“But new wine must be put into new wineskins.”
Mark 2:22 (NKJV)
I hate computers, mobile phones and ipads (even if I do check them compulsively). Listening to the radio yesterday(1) I heard about a survey of young people between 18-25 years, to measure stress levels when technology was taken away from them. The results were not at all what I expected—within minutes their stress levels went up! This is completely the opposite to what would happen to me.
As a teacher and parent, I continually try to pull children away from the grip of technology to deeper learning without it—and yet if these children are showing stress behaviour, as the research suggests they will, is this really the way forward?
Without a doubt, a deep and fulfilling learning experience through technology would not work for me. But I am beginning to discover I am ‘old wine.’ As Mark 2:22 says, “no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wine skins ruined.”
Perhaps my mindset has to change. Maybe technology isn’t the vacuum of spirituality I had assumed—maybe it is just for new wineskins.
Lord God, thank you for your awesome presence – your ability to speak across all nations and all languages. Thank you that we need not fear the new because you transcend time. Thank you for the young people you are reaching out to through the medium of social technology. Please bless them with the gift of discernment and understanding and that they will learn about you through the mass of information on the internet. Let the Holy Spirit encourage and guide them on their journey. In Jesus Christ’s name.
